History of Viagra

A few years back Viagra was not as popular as aspirin and paracetamol. But now Viagra is one of the largely selling drugs in the medical field. Viagra is used for the Erectile Dysfunction. This trial went fast and it overtook the trials for other drugs because men were so enthusiastic in trying the compound even though initially few dropped out of the study. In 1997 there were fewer publications 9-10 only on the research database MEDLINE. But in the consecutive years it has increased to 120 and 200 publications respectively.

Actually scientist found Viagra by a tiny gas molecule namely Nitric Oxide (NO) that acts as a chemical communicator in our cells. For good sexual health the release of Nitric oxide by cells in the penis activates an enzyme namely guanylate cyclase. This critical and crucial reaction makes another molecule called cyclic guano sine mono phosphate. It relaxes penile smooth muscle and allows the arteries to expand and so the blood rushes in giving an erection.

Viagra has been available in America on proper doctor’s prescription from the year 1998. Scientists are now testing Viagra for women. Viagra is still prohibited for women and children. Viagra can bring side effects if it’s used without the doctors prescriptions. Thus, scientists are say it should not be used in large doses. It may bring heart attacks to the patients.

There will be an alternative for Viagra soon. Vasomax is made by zonagen, its still in the process and passing through the pipeline. It apparently has more distinct advantage over Viagra in having only a 20 minute pre love period. It’s also safer than Viagra in taking the nitrates.
